Using Enhanced Concept Map for Student Modeling in Programming Tutors
نویسنده
چکیده
We have been using the concept map of the domain, enhanced with pedagogical concepts called learning objectives, as the overlay student model in our intelligent tutors for programming. The resulting student model is finegrained, and has several advantages: (1) it facilitates better adaptation during problem generation; (2) it makes it possible for the tutor to automatically vary the level of locality during problem generation to meet the needs of the learner; (3) it clarifies to the learner the relationship among domain concepts when opened to scrutiny; (4) the tutor can estimate the level of understanding of a student in any higher-level concept, not just the concepts for which it presents problems; and (5) two tutors in a domain can affect each other’s adaptation of problems. Prior evaluations have shown that tutors that use enhanced concept maps help improve learning.

A Survey of Intelligent Programming Tutors
I survey the field of Intelligent Tutoring Systems as applied to introductory programming, Intelligent Programming Tutors (IPT). I introduce the concept of an IPT along with motivation for continued development. I discuss the three components of an IPT: domain knowledge, student knowledge, and constructive feedback. I focus particularly on the generation of constructive feedback and open proble...

This study describes the design and implementation of a naive computer peer agent called KORI-2. Unlike prevalent intelligent tutoring systems that implement a machine tutor replacing a human expert, teachable agent systems try to implement a machine peer tutee. Human student tutors are motivated to learn domain knowledge effectively while tutoring a machine tutee. With KORI-2, a human student ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Concept Map on Education: A Systematic Review
Introduction: Along with science and technology advancement, philosophy, content and educational methods are transforming. Modern approaches such as constructivism have replaced traditional approaches and the assumption of knowledge transfer from teachers to learners. One of these approaches is concept map. The purpose of this paper was to examine the application of concept maps in education an...

CM-ED is a Concept Map EDitor developed with the aim of being useful in different contexts and uses of the educational agenda. This paper describes DynMap, a system based on CM-ED for dynamically visualizing the Learner Model of an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS). The aim is to facilitate teachers to better understand ITS outcomes. The paper, first, describes the structure of the tutors built...
